With approximately 185,000 inhabitants, Breda is located in the south of the Netherlands, in North Brabant province. It is centrally located and only an hour’s drive from, for example, Amsterdam and less than two hours from Brussels (Belgium) or Düsseldorf (Germany).
North Brabant is considered the most hospitable province in the Netherlands and has more than 2.5 million inhabitants: the ‘Brabanders’. The largest cities in Brabant – as we call our province – all have a connection with a partner city in China: Eindhoven (sister city Nanjing), Tilburg (sister city Changzhou), Breda (sister city Yangzhou) and ‘s-Hertogenbosch (sister city Xuxi).
Cities and nature
During a stay in North Brabant, every day feels like a different holiday. The distances between the largest cities, highlights, attractions, and parks are small and easy to bridge. The roads, public transport and cycling hub network are excellent. And wherever you are in Brabant, beautiful nature is always around the corner!
With no less than four National Parks and beautiful nature reserves, scenic fortified towns surrounded by water and plenty of forests including the oldest cultural forest in the Netherlands (Breda’s own Mastbos), you can easily combine city trips with nature in Brabant.
